How to show div before material tab switch animation starts

Notice how the second <div> doesn't animate in when you click tab2. I believe this happens because the $index doesn't change until the animation finishes.

I figured an alternative was to have an ng-click on my tab2 that shows the element immediately, but then the problem would persist when swiping on mobile devices...

Is there a clean solution for this?
