I am attempting to develop an application that uses LinkedIn's API. The desired functionality of the application is as follows:
- return the connections of any given first connection of mine (this would mean returning my second connections through a first connection)
- display the name, job title, industry, work history, and education for each of these returned connections
I have searched through the LinkedIn Developer center and have not been able to find anything that references or meets these functionality requirements. However, I have found that it may not be possible to return any second connections or their information with the LinkedIn API:
You cannot use our self-service program and must talk to us directly, as you may be subject to additional Terms, if your Application:
- Will store or export any data from LinkedIn other than a LinkedIn member’s profile data (name, photo, headline, contact information, experience, education, summary, and location). This includes data for anyone other than the member who requested the data, such as profile or other data about the member’s connections; network updates; search results generated using LinkedIn data; and information about companies and job postings.
I believe that this term only applies to a self-service program and not a partner program (which mine will be).
My question is: Is this application possible with the LinkedIn API platform? And if not, is there any other way I could accomplish this functionality?
Any advice, guidance, or links will be greatly appreciated.
