How to add a highchart js to drupal module

I want to add higchart library in my drupal module. What's the rigth way to do it? I tried with drupal_add_js() but nothing happens. I tried with de external option, and the library option. What's the best way to include it? In the other hand i read that there's a problem when a function starts with the sing "$". ¿How can i manage it?
